Acetone is regularly stored in appropriate plastic containers with no issues, though I suppose it is a solvent for some plastics. Other than getting it in your eye, or ingesting/absorbing large quantities, it's pretty innocuous as organic solvents go... I regularly use it when prepping to paint or to do fiberglass repair... it removes wax and oil and fiberglass/epoxy resin, but does not hurt cured fiberglass/epoxy (or most cured paints either btw). I wear gloves and safety glasses + never had an issue... decent safety glasses are designed for this kind of thing...
It wouldn't surprise me if acetone was an ingredient in some of the commercial bolt cracking sprays... but who knows... it is pretty volatile and I suppose also flammable in the right circumstance...
I'm not advocating a cavalier attitude towards the stuff (particularly if you need to use it a lot), but imho, acetone is not something to fear... the fact that it smells strongly is a good thing - your feedback system can detect it so you can avoid inhaling it! I've worked with highly toxic odourless substances - and that actually is dangerous: eg they require alarm systems, and special training...
