I agree with your point qualifying it by talking about working dog breeds vs. house pet breeds.
Any sane, reputable house pet breeder will do their best to avoid inbreeding and the temperament issues this leads to in litters. They are in the business of making money and people happy, after all. And a bad rep travels quickly in dog circles.
Modern Bedlington Terriers are not considered a working breed to my knowledge, and I would be more worried about a mean inbred poodle than a BT. I've seen a cranky inbred poodle bite the eye out of the socket of a chihuahua before. Ick.
I'm no expert, I grew up next door to working dog German Shepard and Doberman breeders, who had about 4 house cats, rescue Whippets, and several outdoor barn cats and listened to the owners over the years. Their well socialized house-raised puppies went into law enforcement positions all over the state before they retired.
The only time one of their dogs ever did any damage was when a less than one year-old red dobie bit one of the family daughters below her eye. It was put down immediately. That is what happens with good breeders of working dogs.
Reformed Husky and Beagle guy, now owned by 2 cats.
