And one small example but I drive two of my employers cars for errands. One is a new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, the other a new Range Rover Sport HSE. In terms of fit/finish/materials, ride/drive/handling, the Jeep is head and shoulders above the Range Rover. And I like the styling better. Even the more garden variety Grand Cherokee we had for a week felt like it cost $10K more than the RR. But it doesn't, it costs half the price. I don't know what it costs to maintain but my Wrangler has the entire maintenance schedule for 100K on one page. A new front bumper is $300.--wonder what it is on a RR? My last employers had a Lincoln MKS that was equal in every way to the MB S class it replaced, for $40 less. Want performance? A new top of the line Ford Focus has something like 260 horse and mid 6 second 0-60s for mid $20K money NEW! That was BMW "M" performance of a few short years ago. Sure the $100K German cars offer something special but those aren't the ones most of us buy (nor would want to buy used). There's just a whole bunch of affordable cars available that offer everything a used, four year old Audi does without all the pain.
