Small car safety is overrated... Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Thu, 10 Oct 2013 11:38:40 In Reply to: Various approaches, Noel, Thu, 10 Oct 2013 11:07:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There was recently a smaller new kia that got hit by a new honda civic in an intersection where the speed limits are 35 mph. Kia driver was killed.
Most the rentals we do have way more hp than our oldest saabs but are no way as fun. Like you say, road feel matters! In all honesty, the 9-5 doesn't have the same directness as the c900's... but it is fantastic on the highway. It is true that a well maintained old car can be just fine on a trip. But sometimes a small thing can become a pain in the neck... Like let's say a red di failed suddenly en route - if there's no Saab folk nearby, that's pretty tough to patch up quickly. No big deal if you have a spare in the trunk, but there's only so many parts one can take along! That said, I don't worry much taking the 2004 9-5 and it's only 50% newer than the newest 9000's! I view it as a "new" car... and I guess part of "well maintained" is that very few parts should fail suddenly... but at some age, short of going over everything, there are lots of little things that have aged, possibly near the point of failure. Our c900's are kind of near that point now.
I could definitely see where a EV or hybrid could make sense in the city. Much of our driving is not long haul, so it would save on gas... but I guess I'd rather drive the c900's than save on gas!
