What is interesting about the video... Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Thu, 14 Nov 2013 06:29:03 In Reply to: Fascinating, dmz789qqq, Wed, 13 Nov 2013 18:05:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
is that the airbag is hardly needed at all in this collision! the first part of his head to touch the ground is his forehead (via the helmet), and only after he has slid for a while and rolled at least once... the initial ground contact is a knee, and then eventually a slide of shoulder vs pavement with the airbag pushed to the side...
It is cool that the airbag stays inflated the whole time, and it might actually be useful to reduce neck injuries (and concussions) in this context... where this was a straight out slide, I doubt neck injury would be likely without it... but had he hit something during the slide, that airbag could really help!
However, the big difference vs the bikes, is that the rider is still wearing a helmet! Mike's opinion would be valuable here, but I would think it is safe to say that few motorcycle riders buying this suit would do so to avoid wearing a helmet... right? Granted it doesn't wrap around the head, but the whole point of the cycling one is to make a helmet unnecessary... that whole product seems to me like a solution looking for a problem...
