TomTom for GPS and cell phone for use to place /receive calls. I have used my smart phone for GPS and it works well for short trips. This function absolutely destroys battery life so it will need to be plugged in the entire time, which makes use as a phone difficult. Additionally, receiving a call when trying to use the audio GPS instructions simply does not work. I have had this happen and it was extremely frustrating!
I missed the turn, the GPS voice was screaming at me, I couldn't hear a darn thing the caller was saying, etc.......
My TomTon does not allow me to change the proposed route. Even when planning the route using TomTom's on-line maping tool I am stuck with what their program determines is the best route to take. Of course I change my route on the fly which results in "Recalculating, Recalculating, Recalculating..." The device was a gift three or four years ago and is a mid to lower grade unit. For future purchases I will insist on a model that has route modification functions built into the software, as well as faster USB speeds for downloading from the computer. My unit is only USB-1, something that is not explained in any of the literature and map updates can take an hour to complete.
But I modified my TomTom to show the Saab logo on the screen upon start-up.
