But when we were moving from CO to metro Detroit my wife insisted we buy a GPS. On the trip there as we reached the outskirts of Chicago, traffic came to a dead stop. The GPS told us to get off at the next exit then said the highway was closed. Other cars were getting off so we said what the heck. The GPS took us on surface streets all the way through Chicago and Gary Indiana before routing us back to the highway. Occasionally we saw the main highway and it was gridlocked each time. Turns out there was a four semi crash with fatalities. The highway was completely closed for ten hours. Without GPS we would have sat there for hours before we figured it out and then figured a way to get around it. I use it every time I travel even if I know the route. For getting around a big city you don't know there's nothing better. The best thing is you can concentrate on driving since you get prompts verbally.
