Do not see vehicles disabled any more

Maybe I am old...
Used to be when you drove along the roads when everyone was out on first summer vacation trips, you would see lots of vehicles that were disabled with failed cooling systems. Not any more. So what are the factors?
- improved coolants, less rad fouling
- serpentine belts with tensioners vs old style
- electric fans removing the large cantilever loads of large mechanical fans
- eliminating of soldered brass radiator cores that had deposits that grew at the solder joints which restricted the tube ends
- improved rad hose construction?
- could coolant pumps be improved?
- serpentine belt tension loads on the coolant pumps may be less than the old style belts that had to be tight enough so there was no slippage from the alternator or AC compressor. Some vehicles now have electric coolant pumps eliminating all lateral loads on the pump's bearing and seals.
- less [copper] fin rot
- AC condenser protects rad from damage, salt etc.
- and engine temperature/pressure increases did not seem to do any harm
- sealed coolant systems eliminating exposure to oxygen in open expansion tanks [some makes still do this, KIA for one]
- anything else?
[I had a 1978 Volvo 264. It was a V6 aluminum engine with wet cylinders [not iron sleeves in aluminum bores]. It had a huge viscous drive aluminum fan. When the engine rev'd, it sounded like an air plane taking off. I removed that and installed an electric fan and controller. The engine rev'd more freely and it sounded like a sewing machine reving up.]
