Savings vs what? Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Thu, 20 Nov 2014 06:33:34 In Reply to: Up to 25% with one Co here in Canada... BUT, Trev, Wed, 19 Nov 2014 17:06:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Is Desjardins Adjusto less than all the competition for the base insurance cost (ie not getting the Adjusto savings)? I saved 50% by switching to a more cost effective insurer and tweaking a few parameters! I was astonished! I could insure 2 c900's for less than 1 previously. House insurance cost is about the same since the switch, but my coverage value is more than double.
I could probably save more on insurance by historic plating the c900's and I think when the winter beater finally dies, I will get another daily driver (probably a 9-5 wagon) and historic insure the better c900.
The insurance companies are kind of on to something in terms of weeding out some problem drivers: frequent sudden braking is usually a sign of inadequate following distance, sudden acceleration a sign of more aggressive driving, time of day - well, they already use a different rate for a commute vehicle, but it is hard to verify and so I can see how they would like to do that. Many more collisions happen at rush hour. That said, people can drive smoothly but still be oblivious and dangerous drivers. And people can accelerate quickly with lots of space around them and be good drivers. I think they need to refine the data collection and analysis and they probably will over time. Perhaps they are admitting that somewhat in their carrot approach so far... once they get it down, you can bet the stick approach will follow ("bad" drivers penalized instead of "good" drivers given a discount). Though I suppose there will still be a warm and fuzzy spin. gotta love insurance companies!
