Thanks to all that contributed the great suggestions. I will keep on the lookout for potential fare breaks, perhaps it is a bit too early to book anything this far in advance.
The unique problem I face is hauling with me two small children. While I would ordinarily love to fly through Kiev or Moscow just to check it all out, dragging small kids through a multiple leg journey like that has its own set of issues.
The cheapest of the cheap flights are through some Russian airline called Transaero - $890 R/T from JFK. It flies to Larnaca through the smaller of the two Moscow airports. The only downside is that with the Russian economy tanking, whether that airline will still be flying come this summer. I'd hate to be left hanging - so I'd prefer to pay more for a western airline that isn't subject to errant ground to air missiles (only sort of joking about that).
Thanks again for all of the great tips for my hoped for trip! Hope we can do it. Otherwise, I know Cape May like the back of my hand.
