Nice.....I've been going to "Columbia" since 1970 as it was first named when Butch and Sundance robbed the bank. We opened the first ski season when the runs were about as wide as your ski pole and straight down, then the trees cut back for more width every year. I think it was 1976 when there was so little snow the lifts didn't operate so we cross country skied up as high as our legs and lungs would take us, and then telemark or fall the rest of the way to the bottom.....long before all the crazy stuff was built up on Last Dollar Road. The fishing was good up there in the beaver dam ponds, and the mesas just stunning. What a wonderful place on top of the world.
We avoid the Saturday beer brawl and go Friday nights and then Sunday for the finale. Walking around the backside to get to the stage areas for some meet n' greet makes it a easy entry - I can relate to that. Staying in town with a friend makes it simple to get in and out, so coming a few days prior, and parking helps to limit the nut cases that are trying to drive while inhaling stuff that smells skunky and sticky.....not to mention the guzzling fest. Just being at 8800 feet is enough for me.
I think 59M isn't enough for a house up on the way to BVF. Seems like he went way too cheap on that shack and probably went over there to get some distance from Oprah. I'll have to go back to take a look -- I thought he was over on Last Dollar to be closer his planes at the aeropuerto.
