I've gone through much of the same thinking, although not in quite the methodical way you did. I too have fond memories of the MGs, Triumphs, Healey's I drove back in the day, but it been a long time since I drove one. It's sort of like motorcycles, I love them in theory but the prospect of actually riding one in traffic kind of puckers me up. C900's were the conclusion I always ended up with, I owned six of them. In my current situation one car has to do it all, and a Wrangler with the top and doors off is as much fun as any car I've driven. Part of it is the fact I'm a lot less keen on driving fast on public roads and all the possible consequences. Plus I routinely drive ultra-fast cars and driving fast cars slow just isn't much fun. When I retire I may be in more of a mood to want to tinker around with an old car, but for now working on an old car is the last thing I want to do in my spare time. I am toying with the idea of a second car in the next year or two. Used Saab, BMW, or Audi convertibles may be contenders but I'd really like something new. I've thought about a two door Wrangler that I could take the top and doors off and leave in my garage. But I'm really leaning toward a small, simple, sports car. The upcoming Fiat 124 sounds almost perfect and it's affordable. Of course it would stay in Grand Haven, there's no way I would drive something like that here in Crazy Town. Two seaters are great fun, but when push comes to shove, for most people something like your Viggen just make more sense.
