My in-laws, a older friend of mine, and someone on who posted on the FTC site I read this morning all got caught by this scam... my in-laws and friend ended up giving them full remote access to their computers, but didn't lost any money... When my father-in-law called me to tell me hackers had penetrated his computer and someone had called him to alert him of it, I had him unplug his computer from the Internet. I even talked to the folks who had control of his computer and let them know the jig was up, but when they get full access like that, how can you tell that they have not installed something on your computer so the laptop ended having to be wiped and restored from a back-up prior to the intrusion. The person on the FTC paid about $300 for nothing.
