My wife is studying in Boston this summer and we want to road trip there from Seattle. The plan is to drop her off and then I fly back home. Any suggestions on how this can be accomplished on a budget? We are more concerned with gas mileage than room, so the smaller the car the better.

- Are there any rental companies out there that are cheaper than others on one way trips?

- Are there any tips/tricks/clever ideas I'm not aware of?

- Can I drive a beater over there and then just drill out all the VIN plates and leave it? (JK)
