All sports require certain skills at a high level, but most participants are dependent on the rest of the team for winning.
Individual athletes are incredibly trained and could do well in many sports. By comparison, I doubt many players of football, baseball or basketball have the same potential versatility or the mental toughness needed to be solo athletes.
One exception (at the Olympics) would be curling. It's like golf, bowling, darts or shuffleboard--fun competitive activities but not a sport.
