Plate stickers for my Viggen cost over $200 each year! And the car is only driven 6-8 months of the year due to Michigan's winter weather. Registration Fees are based strictly upon the initial MSRP of the vehicle, with a cost depreciation factor that stops after only 5 years. (Each year's registration after year one costs less than the preceding year through year five, but years five through eternity all cost the same)
Michigan does have a $25/year Antique or Classic registration fee, but...... The regulations stipulate the car can only be driven in parades or to/from special automotive events. LOTS of owners get busted every year in the days preceding the Detroit area Woodward Dream Cruise by driving their classics on the streets before the event. This low cost Antique/Classic Registration includes a special License Plate or allows use of an age appropriate old plate, which makes it easy for the Police to spot these cars. We have all heard of Speed Traps. Woodward Ave is a Registration Trap in the days prior to the Dream Cruise.
