The following is just the cargo area, not any measurements with seats down:

First impression: I thought Volvo was much smaller, but it is more complicated than that. Height is certainly less. Volvo = 26 inches height vs. Saab wagon = 29 inches.

Here is where it gets interesting: Volvo has a full width all the way from rear to front. The SAAB has the wheel intrusions. Volvo = 43 inches. vs. SAAB at 40 inches.

Volvo Depth at mid height is 36 inches. Saab is 38 inch depth.

So, a gross comparison. Math folks, don't bang me up - this is just rough.

40,248 cubic inches Volvo

44,080 cubic inches Saab (even more actually, due to increased volume aft of the wheel intrusions.

Winner = SAAB. Unless you need width.
