It is true that parts on Volvos is comparable to Saab with similar supply chains, so probably more costly than Nissan, and ideally one would have a local tech that specializes in them which usually costs more. We are currently looking for a p2 xc90 and they seem quite friendly to work on so a reasonable transition for us. The bigger Volvos seem to be popular but cars like the v50 can be found surprisingly cheaply. Eg there is currently a 2011 v50 with 77k km locally for about $5k. The newer Volvos, 2016+ are more complex and probably expensive to maintain, but the preceding era isn't bad and is quite rust resistant. Merc, Audi, and especially BMW can be quite a bit more expensive to maintain so I'm avoiding them completely.
Good luck in your search!
