With most of those companies, no one gets good customer service. Discover, Visa/MC, even Amex has automated the system and cut back on people. A while back I requested a copy of a statement I did not recieve. No problem, it showed up just 10 months later! The one exception in my experience is Diner's Club. A live human being answers the phone each time. No need to punch numbers or talk with computers. It's not free, but it does give me airline miles and an extra 1000 miles a month for the first 12. Actually, about a quarter of the time, the people on that line are ill-informed, but they are always polite, and they are always people.
