thoughts. I live in the land of "pebbles" on the road. I have yet to see or hear of a "pebble" going through a radiator. Even rocks. If the car was real old, it may be possible that it just got nasty inside and sprang a leak. But not a 99. Is your friend a female????? I'm sure you know what I'm thinking. And it's true, dealers/mechanics will take advantage of a woman. Have a guy take it to another mechanic. My wife took my P/U to the dealer with a leak in the radiator. Service guy shows her what is supposed to be a"bird or rock hole" in the radiator, and for only $600 and a day he can replace it. Wife is not convinced and takes it to a reputable indy who says " GM pickups have plastic side tanks that fail after 6-8 years due to placement of return hose. $130 and 30 minutes AND I keep them in stock."
So, take it to another shop and see what they say. Good luck
