I agree, math and science are too important to ignore. Unfortunately,
they're being ignored. In Japan, there's 10 engineers for every
lawyer. In the US, the statistic is reversed. It seems we've been
pushed to become a country less able to produce and manufacture
things and towards a country based on providing services - of which
it seems legalistic ones are the most important. I expect that no
one would argue that math and science aren't important, yet it seems
that our 'leaders' have done little to promote it, either financially or
politically. If they don't think it's important enough to fund basic
research, like superconducting super-colliders, why should they
plan and fund, on a national-scale, math and science education?
The contradictions in all this are almost too daunting to consider.
However, those really concerned about 'national security' , ought to question why math and science aren't being funded more,
and also, why it's more important to plan wars on other peoples,
than to fight a war on critical domestic issues!
