Read your own words. More cars on the road = more wear and tear on the roads. Also, vehicle miles traveled per capitia is increasing every year. However, Oregon's gas tax hasn't increased since 1991. Your "facts" are dubious at best. How do you know that street didn't need repaving? Are you a highway engineer? Who is the "person in charge" you spoke with? A contractor, or an ODOT official? Big difference. Do you know what Oregon's constitutional limitations on gas tax are? If not, then don't be spewing hearsay like "I hear the DOT is stealing gas tax money." If you have facts, let's hear them. Measure 28 is about the General Fund and has nothing to do with the gas tax in Oregon. Remember, those "waistful" government programs you refer to include the road and highway system you love to drive your Saab on. There's no way in hell the private sector would have ever built a road system like that. The only reason we all have cars is because the government built roads for us to drive them on. Do you think GM or Ford was going to get into the road building business??? We built one hell of a road system and now no one wants to pay for its upkeep. Kinda like buying a Saab and not investing one cent in it to maintain it, eh?

And yes, GPS tracking is a silly idea. Probably won't fly.
