As an Oregon resident, I'm appalled the state would propose this tracking system. There are enough SUV, van, and full-size truck drivers that a larger gas tax should be able to cover whatever road-system costs need to be generated. Alternately, the state could levy an excise/licensing tax based on the vehicle's weight and EPA fuel economy ratings. Or we could institute tolls on some of the state's highways so that all users of the roads including out-of-state drivers pay for the roadway costs (currently there are no toll roads in Oregon).
I chose to drive relatively fuel-efficient cars on purpose, and shouldn't be punished/taxed by the state for doing so. I don't want the state tracking my driving habits. This proposal is totally outrageous.
