I own an '85 and an '87 4000 Quattro and they're both absolutely bulletproof. Granted they don't have the power or the cargo capacity of the Saabs, but they're incredibly solid and reliable and the AWD is awesome (yes I DID say "AWD" and "reliable" in the same sentence).
They've had a few electrical problems, but I'd much rather deal with simple inexpensive issues (broken wires going to the lights on the trunklid) than discombobulated computers or the climate-control problems that required tearing the entire dash apart and replacement of a $600 part on my wife's 12-year-newer 9-5.
