That's right, Dinger! It's too bad, but shared component cars are the future--and much of the present. Think of Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infiniti, Toyota/Lexus, etc, etc. It's how to offer a lot of choices, probably keep or gain some customers, and still make money. It's not great if you're a car guy wanting unique cars, but it's reality, especially for sedans, wagons, etc, that are just shy of being commodities.
The alternative, IMO, is to buy what you like and then modify it to make it unique. Good old-fashioned hot rodding, I guess, because to buy something unique you need to go to the limited production/specialty market which requires very deep pockets (Lotus, Saleen etc). The weenies driving hopped-up rice burners do this all the time. I guess they just don't have the tradition that us Saab guys have. Ya don't see anyone lovingly maintaining a 1971 Honda 600. Plus they have boring cars.
The days of having an uncommon production car, especially a sedan, are sadly gone the way of the carburator.
