No, that's rather my point. The guy you're talking about is Bob Lutz. He is by all accounts a real "car guy." Although divisions like Buick still don't quite get it (I don't want a ghost designing my car!) I suspect it's only a matter of time before Mr. Lutz gets around and helps them out. I suspect he can only do one thing at a time, and right now it seems Pontiac and Saturn are getting the bulk of his attention. Both the L300 and the GTO are examples these divisions pulling their heads out of their cornholes.
I am simply saying that the road to efficiency is a tricky one. "Combining" Saab with Opel isn't inherently bad. It's just a slippery slope, so to speak, when doing so. One result can be distinctive cars based on a common, competant platform and the other can be Badge Engineering at its finest. The former is really quite alright, the latter is not.
