You have perfectly illustrated two things I siad.
First you show how hard it is for some to admit Saab's failure. The C900 was a fad car (I'm glad though as I love mine!) that was horribly expensive to make and prone to high repair bills. The money wasn't managed all that well and all work on the new 900 stopped in Regan's first term to put money into the 9000. Once they relised the 9000 wasn't going to be the golden goose they'd hoped on it was time to start looking for help. By 1988 Saab's hand was out begging for money. And that's what you hold up as an example of how good they where doing? They had like 3 or 4 years where they though they might turn the corner and then had to give it up. That's called a failed company.
Secondly you also display the classic hang up over "exclusivity". How some are truely upset at the idea that the next Opels and Saabs will be designed jointly. You act as if the mere sharing is bad, regardless of how good the result maybe. Why will the Saab's be "rebadged Opels"? Couldn't one make the arguement that it is Opel that will merely be rebadged Saabs? You'd rather have a good car that was 100% unique no matter what the trade off in costs and reliability where. The rest of us just want great Saabs. And if it happens to share something with Opel, then I guess Opel is all the better for it.
