For a bike, not a car. I use 10w - 30w as my chain lube, but my shop advises me this is not really good.
I replaced chain, front and rear sprockets the summer before last, and a number of the rear sprockets are now fine in the tooth. I just bought a new chain, but the bike shop says that putting a new chain on old sprockets will simply stetch the chain. The gears were a good make of Shimano, if I recall correctly.
So will using a correct chain lube extend the life of my sprockets. Any recommendations, or is the 10W - 30W Pennzoil up to the task ? (pls don't assume I use pennzoil in the Saab, I prefer to keep my auto oil info discreet) When wiping the chain after a ride, the oil is obviously badly contanimated, almost sludge, but I've ruled out an oil analysis at this point in time, just looking for free advice.
With replacement of gear shifts, tires, rims, front and rear sprockets, chain, and freewheel bearing, the upkeep on the bike is rivaling that of the Saab, and there is no warranty coverage.
The bike is a Raleigh M-65.
Thanks
