Working Hard and Working Smart. Garbagemen work hard, Janitors work hard, Fast-Food Cooks work hard, but do they offer much to the greater good? I would expect someone that makes a living be curing cancer to make more $$$ than someone who's prime objective is shuffling garbage from a can to a truck.

It doesn't matter where you start in life. My father was born in a farm house in rural northwest Arkansas. He came from nothing; and was fueled by determination to succeed. If a person has the mindset, that person can do anything. I had a huge headstart because of my father, but does that mean that I deserve less compensation for my achievements? The most qualified person deserves the most compensation for what he does, otherwise what motivation would one have to do excel?

IMHO. This was the reason behind the fall of communism. The people that made the most money had to give it to the people that made the least money. This didn't leave the upper end producers much reason to produce well seeing that they had to give everything to the freeloaders anyway. I certainly would not want to make the same salary as the lot porter, because there is much more riding on what I do. If this were the case, I'd much rather be the lot porter because life would be much simpler.

Don't give me the "you need to do your best all of the time because it's the right thing to do" crap, because I don't believe it. It's crap. If I'm not rewarded for what I do, then I won't do it. Someone else can, and I'll be happily shuffling cars around the lot.

Cheers,
Brian.
