1) US Emissions laws and the direction of the standards, especially in California, make introducing a diesel powered car a questionable proposition.
2) Different demographic of buyers,
3) A much smaller base of customers over which to amortize the certification, training of mechanics, stocking parts, adding permutations to the product offering.
Even the 175 hp diesel V6 would suffer an image of inadequate power compared to Saab's competiors, let alone the 125 hp 2.2
Given a couple of years of persistent $2.00 a gallon fuel costs, however, and those issues seem less important than they are now.
