I was working as a diesel mechanic until 83 (mostly Mack, some Detroits). One of the managers at the trucking company I worked for had bought an Olds diesel wagon for his wife. It eas the same block as the 350 gas engines with different heads to accomodate the injectors. The block couldn't handle the stress of diesel and was replaced twice, the bell bousing bolts couldn't handle the torque and failed (tranny didn't fall out but it was close) and the Roosamaster injector pump was a real weak point.
