BD does not flow in the cold. So running 100% BD (BD100) in the winter is not an option for many. Some fuel line components will not take BD. BD delivers less energy and power.
BD is not veggy or fryer oil. BD can be made from these. It is a chemical process where alchohol and lye are mixed, then added to the oils. Esterification takes place and glycerine is a byproduct which must be separated. Some cook this at home.
When you can find BD, you will find that is costs more.
BD20 (20%) blends are considered a good approach.
BD has better lubricity for the injector pump internals.
Water in fuels can cause injector and pump damage. BD stocks are not intrinsically water free.
