All but one of the Euro brands have dropped Diesels from the US and Canadian markets. M.B. stopped a few years ago. Only VW is left. They detune their 115HP engines to 90HP for this market to cope with the crappy fuel. When the ultra low sulfer and higher cetane fuels come on stream, that may change.
Amoco Permier is a good fuel, higher cetain and quite low sulfer. Cleaner exhaust, smoother operation and more power with that fuel.
VW will have Passat diesels next fall with bigger engines. You can get diesel jetta sedans, wagons, golfs and beatles right now.
Anyone who gets a diesel in market needs a real serious education about timing belts, engine oils and fuels! The timing belts drive the injector pumps (19,000 PSI or higher), and that shortens the TB life.
If you use a basic engine oil in these engines, you are going to get hurt.
