The head gasket issue truly is ridiculous, especially since there are two head gaskets for only four cylinders. It only applies to the 2.5l cars though, which while a lot of them don't include the turbo cars us Saab owners should be most interested in anyway. Subaru isn't by any means the first or only company to get into trouble by pushing the bore spacing on an older engine design further than they should (eg the Saab 2.1l) but surely it's among the most prolific. I'm not sure the CVs are much worse than on a lot of cars, except there are obviously twice as many.
I want to like Subarus in a way, I admire their simplicity and basic goodness and doing things a bit of a differently in their engineering, but they also feel cheap, loud, tiny, and dated to me, so while their might be a similar appeal to a Saab, the execution is just totally different and not very appealing to me.
