after driving numerous rental Subies. I can see a little appeal, but only if one has never owned something more refined... the engineering design has some definite positives (eg low down engine weight), but that doesn't always translate in terms of handling...
A friend of mine had a hg blow, so just bought a new one. None of my Subie friends actually cross shopped other brands, though to be fair, some did cross shop Forester vs Outback! Some of them do last pretty well in terms of miles, but they do still rust around here (at least they are significantly better than Mazda in that regard)...
