I guess Subarus are only somewhat similar to Saab in their general character, not in the driving experience. I have driven the first generation Volvo S40 and it's not too bad, can be a fun car, I imagine S60 T5 or R would be one level better.

9000 sure has its flaws but it definitely makes up for in the driving satisfaction. I just haven't driven enough cars in my life to properly compare to other brands. 9000 is top for me in the "fun" department. The 528i has a totally different personality, it just seems so serious and business-like, you just don't get that "take-off" feeling as with the Saab. I'm not sure if the 3-series are different in that sense.

I see Audi mentioned very often as a possible Saab alternative. So why Audi, why not BMW? I would think BMW would be closer to Saab in their philosophy. Or is it because of the snobbish stereotype associated to it?
