that's the way I look at it... get a nice used one while you can...

BMW is RWD so better in some ways, less so in others (eg snow)... though they do come as awd variants, and those would be nice. Audis pretty regularly are quattro, which makes them decent snow cars. That's probably why Audi is slightly more popular with Saab enthusiasts... but some of the VW/Audi maintenance is bordering on scary (timing belt vs chain). Subaru sounds like it fits the bill in that regard also (they are great in snow)... but its the other 90% of the year where they disappointed me (we have winter for much more than 10% of the year, but the roads are cleared a large fraction of the time in winter)... Volvo is a good candidate also (even if the joke is they drive like a tractor)... Sitting in one parked does feel as close to a Saab as any other car (controls in similar locations and good ergonomics in general, especially seats, good safety). I wish I could rent a Volvo or Audi to put some serious miles on sometime...

that's basically it - do up a short list + test drive a few...
