This is what I'm saying... Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Fri, 21 Feb 2014 06:57:40 In Reply to: Legacy Outback is no wagon., dmz789qqq, Wed, 19 Feb 2014 13:10:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Imprezas are hatchbacks. There's no way you're fitting a family of 4, 4 bikes, and all their gear in there, driving 1000+ miles, and being at all comfortable! Outback is raised a bit too much imho. I haven't driven the new ones and they are super popular here also, but I've basically nixed Subaru from my list because they drive like all the other asian cars: fast off the line, terrible on the highway, + the AWD sucks gas. Oh and the seats are torture.
Audi wagons are everywhere here also. A3 is a hatchback, not a wagon. A4 is a very small wagon... er... was a very small wagon... they increased the size of the A4. A6 was big, expensive, and fuel guzzling. I actually really like the Allroad models. I haven't really looked closely at the new lineup, but I would consider an allroad with a turbo 4 if they made that. They used to be gas guzzlers.
Other people make wagons, but they are getting a bit hard to come by. Does BMW still make 3 and 5 series wagons? Merc? X1 looks interesting, but kind of small and yet allroad-tall. Largely SUVs have supplanted wagons, in part because the SUV dynamics have improved, but moreso because wives seem to like the high seating position. Half my friends now drive Foresters because the wives liked the seating position... those things are awful to drive - even their subaru-lemming husbands agree... clearance in snow is good though.
I really think that if Volvo sticks to making V50/70 and xc70 product a key part of their range, there will be increased interest as other brands drop out of this. The differences between a wagon and SUV in terms of performance (the Volvos were never really performers) may have diminished over time, but they can work to improve that. After all, driving dynamics are a key part of safety.
