Thanks for posting all this information about your experience - really well thought out, and the data is very useful. The Fiat is too small for us (family of 4), but we wouldn't buy a new car now that wasn't primarily electric drive (there are plenty of used saabs around in the interim!).
Good to hear the brakes last so long. For us, the main concerns would be cold weather performance and longevity. Cold weather means salt, so many of our biggest expenses mostly come from that: eg an exhaust system every 3 years.
Simplifying a car can make it much less maintenance thirsty. I guess one could argue that with ev's we are trading grubby mechanical work for electrical work. Though I like working on the c900's, having an ee background, I prefer electrical work! Many owners of ev's, even homebrew ev's, claim that they were amazed how low the maintenance costs became. Not needing a tranny, big cooling system, exhaust, etc helps. Heck, even bulbs nowadays should all be LED's. They last longer and use less electricity. Presumably that is the case for the 500, no?
I like the tip of using the seat heaters rather than the blown cabin air. That would make sense. I find in the 9-5 it switches between hot and cold a lot to maintain air temps, and if there wasn't all that free heat from the engine, it would be wasteful... it's not that comfortable either. I'm ok driving a relatively cold car (heck, saabs blow cold air at the driver to keep them alert). Maybe with winter clothing on and the seat heater going, it would be fine...
