I've often though about getting one of these (link below). Combine that with a hidden kill switch, and there's no way a thief would have time steal your car. He'd have to find and activate the kill switch, then hard-wire the ignition to start it. It wouldn't start, so I doubt he'd pop the hood and start effing around with the battery. I have no idea if longer wires would affect anything, but I like the idea.
That must be disconcerting to see someone eyeballing your car. Good thing you weren't alone. Glad you lock your gates, that's smart thinking for a New Yawker. :)
