resistance change in the wire is negligible if you're running 4 or 5 feet. If you were adding a few hundred feet it could make a difference. Just use the same wire gauge and you'll be fine. Resistance can be affected by splices/connectors/etc. so make sure your connections are properly soldered/crimped/etc.
If you really want to know about wire resistance check out wikipedia's table...copper wire is rated per 1000ft
