I think you should be fine with the stock I/C: plenty of SAAB all over the south work with no issue.
but FYI, here's a verbatim post I put on some other site a couple of weeks ago, relating the impact of having the AC running on the air coming out of the inter cooler.
"After reading some posts on inter coolers, I decided to run a little test to see the effect of the A/C on the engine air temperature. The results were quite suprising to me.
external conditions 94F(34.5C), 400 feet altitude (112m), hunidity 57% (from local weather news), relative heat index = 105F (40.5C)
Car is an 02 LPT with TD04 (I don't expect it makes a difference; std everything else, i.e. plugs, exhaust etc...)
test - run the car at stable speed (flat highway) at 70mph using cruise control and wait for Tair to stabilize.
(The load is below the yellow arc on the boost gauge)
The temperatures are taken from the SID (Teng and Tair; I believe the Tair is taken on the plastic intake pipe, just exiting the intercooler)
here are the results:
Engine temp around 89C (192F)
driving with A/C off 44C (111F)
driving with A/C ON 55C (131F)
turning off A/C: 44C reached within 30 seconds
so the A/C increases the intake air temperature by 20F or 11C with the stock intercooler!"
Yesterday, I repositioned the horns so that they do not obstruct the AC evaporator and by extension the I/C radiator, I'll see if it has any effect at all. I suspect it will, although marginally.
Note that the weather here in NC is quite humid, if you're moving to Arizona, the dry air may make quite a difference.
