I have been a saab fanatic since 1979, at age 10. I convinced my folks to buy a brand new 900 GLE, that was a great car, and to this day the only saab any of my family bought brand new. Since then, combined we must have bought around 30 of these cars--96's, 97's, 99's, 900's of each variety, 9-3's, 9-5's (no 9000's)
My first saabs were a few 99's that I fixed up to varying degrees, and drove to and from college. I eventually bought a 1971 sonett III, my only sonett III, I sold it shortly thereafter, it needed too much rust repair for my 19 year old self to complete.
After college, I didn't need a daily car, so I bought a 1969 sonett v4, #97001837, I had a blast with this car, learned a lot, and eventually decided I needed a 2-stroke sonett, found #97000243. This was a fantastic car, looked great, drove great, very reliable, put lots of miles on this little stroker, drove it to car shows all over the place. Eventually, moved to florida, brought the sonetts with me, usually towed behind my 1987 900 turbo conv....eventually sold the 2-stroke so I could buy #97000043, which I restored from the gound up. Again, I towed this car behind the conv. The conv. went away replaced by a 1996 900 S, which also towed very well.
In 1999 I moved back to the northeast, bought a house in northern NJ, sold the sonett V4, but the stroker is doing quite well. Just moved again, this time to an 1811 dutch colonial farmhouse, with 2 barns, one will be the old car workshop, getting radiant heat and a slab floor in the next week.
all kinds of photos at http://www.eigs.net including our quantum, a 7 year old golden retreiver-chow mix, the 9-3 viggen conv, the 9-5, our 1966 mercedes 230 sl, and various sonett shots.
thanks for reading all this.
