Very interesting thread you have going here.
I bought my first Sonett III when I was 18 years old in 1978. It was a powder blue (not an original color) 1970 with just 55,000 original miles. I always liked the Sonett III's when I was a kid (They reminded me of my Hot Wheel cars)and knew I would own one someday. Mine was advertised in the classifieds of our local paper, the seller was a teacher at the Storm King School in Cornwall, NY. I took one look at it and forked over the $2000 asking price. I didn't even know they were prone to rust so I never looked under the car. Fortunately it didn't have any. I terrorized (repeat terrorized)the neiborhood in that thing for about six months before my parents forced me to sell it. My dad said "Your going to die in that glass coffin!". My next car was a 1974 Subaru Brat- Great for partying out in the woods... if my parents only knew they would have made me keep the Sonett.
I went Saab-less until 1987, when I bought a 1974 Sonett III. It was puke green and promptly painted 1987 Mitsubishi Conquest electric blue. I still have the car and if you park it next to a blue Viggen you will see they are exactly the same color.
In 1991 I picked up my next Sonett, it's a 1968 #732. The seller weighed more than 350 Lbs and couldn't fit behind the wheel anymore so he gave sold it to me for $2000 including a 1969 Sonett parts car. I still have 68. I am in the process of dropping in a high performance motor and should be done before the snow flys.
Next came a 1963 95, a 1958 93B and a 1961 96 (Puttyus Maximus). I still have all five cars on the road and spend my spare time trying to keep them all road worthy.
And yes, most Saab people are a bit off the wall-- Except for me of course. I have a normal job- I make Pogo Sticks for a living!
