Not necessarily true... Posted by AdamB [Email] (#3) [Profile/Gallery] (more from AdamB) on Sun, 29 Sep 2002 18:00:06 In Reply to: The "old" 9-3 is faster, Mr. Science, Sat, 28 Sep 2002 23:53:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 175 hp model only takes 7.2 secs for 0-60 MPH and the 210 hp model should take 6.7-6.9 secs. That is not slower than the older 9-3. Even if the old 9-3 is marginally faster in a straight line, it will be completely trashed by the 9-3 SS when the road gets just slightly twisty. There's also the manual 6-speed tranny which improves the acceleration and is just a bit enjoyable to use instead of the porridge spoon of the NG900/9-3..
I am certainly more interested in a car that can also drive fast around the corners and not feel like it'd roll over on it's side and fall off the road when you go faster than 30 mph. If straightline performance is all you want, you'd be better off with an american V8. I've never heard anybody say anything positive about the handling of the NG900 and old 9-3.
I'm sorry to say this as it will probably cause a huge stir here, but IMO the NG900 and old 9-3 are the worst models SAAB has built, and the 9-3SS is what they should have been like from the beginning.
