When I first sold my 9000 Aero to get my 9-5, I kicked my self in the rear for the first few months and really missed the performance, but all in all, I have to say that the 9-5 is a far better vehicle in just about every quantitative way than the 9000 ever was. There is however, no doubt that the 225 HP manual trans 9000 Aero is the quickest Saab production car produced yet. The 9-5 Aero comes very close, but don't show up at the drag strip in your 9-5 Aero to take on a 9000 Aero. Other than that acceleration difference,The 9-5 is a hands down winner in comfort, ammenities, seating, reliability, features, and just about everything else.
I now drive a 2002 Aero automatic, and would not consider going backward in time to get a 9000. Besides, at this point, even a 97 9000 Aero is 6 years old, and would likely have a minimum of 60- 80 K miles on it. Do you want to start your ownership experience in an out of production car at that point?
