I have no experience with the Aero, but have had various experiences with turbocharged cars. The bottom line is that turbocharging can provide *most* of the beneifts of much larger displacement engines. Most, but not all.
The generic weakness of turbo engines is low-end grunt. All things being equal, a smaller engine will have smaller torque. The reason your launch improves by revving the engine and slipping the clutch is that you're getting the revs up to the point where the turbo is raising the amount of torque.
In recent years, Saab has done a wonderful job of improving the low-rev torque characteristics of its engines. But there are some problems that are just endemic to turbocharging. The only really good way to get the kind of performance you seem to want is to get a car that has a V-8. (That's what V-8s are for.) The Saab turbos do a wonderful job of producing big-engine performance from small engines... once the car is moving. But they will never provide the kind of smooth off-the-line power as a big engine. Even Saab can't change the laws of physics, and I think that's what you're up against here.
As for the engine continuing to rev after you take your foot off the pedal, that simply should not happen. Which makes me curious: is this a trait others have encountered, or is it just Doug's car?
