Our Aero shifting experience (and seat diatribe)

Agree with Bryce, we just don't push it in first. I don't know enough about gear ratios, but first seems nothing more than a means to start the car moving and get you enough RPM to shift to 2nd. Julie will start off in 2nd if at all facing downhill, she'll just give it a bit of gas and let it roll and engage. Considering how easily our TT roadster (225 hp version, 1.8T) launches in first, and its weight being equal to or higher than the Aero, I don't understand what Saab could do to get the Aero to launch better. The Aero is a bullet from 3rd on up, but more of an autobahn cruiser. It's dangerously fast to get up to and beyond legal highway speed (two tickets in it within the first month of ownership). The only thing I want to change about the 2001 Aero is to put 2002 seats in our 2001 but I know that will be ridiculously expensive, the 2001 Aero seats suck bigtime, NO lateral support. I'm seriously pissed at Saab for not putting better seats in their topline model when they were putting some of the best seats ever made in the 9-3 Viggen. My '91 Alfa 164S has factory leather Recaros, the best seats I've ever sat my butt in, and to stay on topic, I like the torque of the tweaked V6 for launching (SuperChip, Stebro exhaust, K&N) but the Aero feels much lighter and quicker once both cars are in 3rd. The 164 just sounds mean and feels more glued to the road. Interesting comparison, both black cars, both rear spoilers, similar execution of the sport-sedan ethic, 10 years apart.
(considering a 2002 Aero but not too likely)
