...I've owned both an auto and 5sp 8V non-turbo. The auto can be a bit dicey, but I never had any problems with modern traffic in the 5sp car. Really have to rev the crap out of it. I kept it in excellent tune, which didn't hurt. The ol' mechanical fuel injection (Bosch K-Jetronic, or "CIS") can be painful to diagnose if you don't understand it and don't have the right tools, but it has been my experience that the K-Jet cars are infinitely more reliable than the later 16-valve LH-Jet cars! It feels like we are constantly fixing something on the 16-valve turbo cars in the collective fleet, while the 8V cars just soldier on with routine fluid changes.
