Just last Thursday I got the same letter from Gary Blake Saab in Exeter, NH. I came in an envelope that made it look like a tax document. It went into the shredder with all the others. I am seriously reconsidering my relationship with this dealer if this is what they feel they need to stoop to in order to get my business. They already had it. Now they stand to lose it over trying to disguise junk mail as a tax document.
The linked article reminded me of one of the best arguments I ever got into with a salesperson over guides was with Bournival in Portsmouth. NH. I was looking at a 96 BMW 328i convertible years back. I had my KBB, Edmunds, etc. prices and started the negotations with those prices. Immediately, the salesjerk pulls out his NADA guide that he informs me "is not available to the market but only for dealers" and that they only negotiate from those prices. My response was that it seems pretty convenient and rather lame that the price they negotiate from is one not available to the public but from some guide obviously fabricated by dealer and for dealers. I told him to either put the guide away or I walk away. He said that's their policy. I said goodbye.
